Fire Island Pines

Ready when the ferry docks.

Everyone arrives by boat, carrying what they can. We get to the house first, so you walk off the dock and straight into your weekend.

The view from a Fire Island Pines deck: cable railing, dune grass, a boardwalk to the beach, and surf breaking in late-afternoon light.
What we do here

The boat sets the schedule. We work back from it.

01

Ferry arrivals

Tell us your boat. The AC is set, the beds are made, the groceries are put away, and dinner is picked up and waiting if you want it.

02

Share weeks

Houses change hands every weekend in season. We reset between groups, so your week starts from your list, not the last group’s leftovers.

03

Getting groceries across

Nothing reaches the island without a plan. We shop the Pantry, the Liquor Shop and the mainland, and put it all away before you arrive.

How it works out here

  • Be early, not on time. The ferry leaves exactly on schedule. Ferry schedule →
  • Water taxi to the Grove. About $10 a person shared, or about $250 for a private boat.
  • Or walk it. Through the Meat Rack to Cherry Grove is about 20 minutes on foot, against 30–45 by water taxi.
  • Groceries need a plan. Every route to the island works differently. The grocery guide covers each one. The grocery guide →

Eating

  • Pines Pizza. Real NYC-style. Full pies are hard to get on summer weekends.
  • The Pantry deli counter. Loaded sandwiches and deli salads.
  • Floyd’s, Cherry Grove. The challah french toast. Closes early afternoon.
  • Also in Cherry Grove, Sand Castle for beachy, Top of the Bay for martinis, Island Breeze for frozen piña coladas.

The culture

  • Low Tea started in Cherry Grove.
  • Architecture walks via pineshistory.org →
  • Showtunes Sunday.
  • Drag brunch at the Blue Whale on summer weekends.
  • Dance Festival tickets sell out fast. Watch for resales.
